Welcome to the Geek Cricket wiki

We are putting together a friendly cricket match on Sunday the 12th of April at the Cape Town Cricket Club in Plumstead (Venue has changed as they are working on the CTCC field. Now at the Wynberg Cricket Club - c/o Rosmead Ave and Wetton Road

Wynberg - it's next to the firestation).

The first ball will be bowled at 10/30 with 25 (c'mon dudes I'm sure we can squeeze in 35...) overs a side.

Cost will be R70 per person to cover the hire of the field and some shiny balls. Playing places will be limited to the first 22, but friends and family are welcome to watch and braai from the sidelines.

Please add your name to the list and be sure to remove it if you can't play. Please also add your email address in case we have to get hold of you. It would also be great to get a sense of your skills so we can find a good balance between the 2 teams (which will be chosen on the morning of play).

Oh and one last thing for all you Twitter types. Anyone who refers to this as a Twicket Match will not be allowed to play :)

PLEASE BRING ANY KIT YOU MAY HAVE

1 - Rob Stokes: erratic, but often deadly bowler. hit and miss batsman. extremely enthusiastic fielder

2 - Allan "go big or go home" Kent.  Boundary or bust.  Running is for other people.  Makes excellent cannon fodder when bowling.  Motivating criteria: owns own box.

3 - Ian Macdonald aka Vinnige Fellla. Neat n tidy bowler, more Harris than Steyn. Lower middle order batsman, who will score around 25 before throwing his wicket away. Again, more Harris than Steyn.

4 - Grant McLachlan: A bit of an all rounder. likes to bat, bowl and keep wicket a bit. Often seen rolling around the feild after tripping over his own feet, my secret weapon is beer.

5 - Amod "phr0ggi" Munga: Nippy, off-spinner (more off than spin). Great in the field (poke with stick for best results). PS: the number alongside the name is higher than I've been placed in the batting lineup...ever.

6 - Chris - Watch out, they call me body line

7 - Ron "Amabacha" Bach: Tall , Dark, sprays it all over the park. Bowler who generates a fair bit of pace depending on match and pitch conditions. Middle/Lower - order Batsman. Illustrious garden cricket career, still waiting for his KOLPAK agent to phone him back...

8 - Tristan Owen - slow-and-steady all rounder

9 - James "Kallis" McKay: an all round ok guy

10 -  Mike "Sid Vicious" Stopforth - bowls a mean left arm in-swinger, but will do more damage on the field than off it when catches come calling... Will umpire if no place available in the team :)

11 - Andrew Smith: Avid TV spectator since school, but current skills are anyone's guess. Used to bat and keep wicket, but willing to do anything.

12 - Henk "GeekRebel" Kleynhans - gets lucky now and then. Thinks the stumping rule should be discarded if the batsman is standing still and forgot that the ball is actually in play behind him.

13 - Neal "I'm awesome" Tosefsky - Jack of all trades. No seriously :)  24 yrs, Solid all round fielder, low order run maker, and good at first change with the in swing / offspin - Got to play, so the umping with have to take a hit.

14 - Graham Harding: Medium lightning fast bowler. Solid all round fielder, 4 & 6 batsman (Construction Worker) - "Got to play, so the umping with have to take a hit."

15 - Lasith "Tamil Tiger" Madurasinghe - unfortunate nickname (for a buddhist), inherited from u-13 cricketing days when I was one of the "two tamil tigers" at local club, so at least it proves 'club cricket' pedigree, however it was my brother who went on to captain the 1st XI ! Opening bat, cover fielder, will bowl if asked to.

16 - Justin Hartman - used to open the batting back in the good old days and my medium paced swing bowling has been known to cause a few problems with the best. It's been way to long since I hit the field but playing Wanderers Club cricket has taught me a thing or two. I'm now the 6th reserve and doubt I'll get to play but looking forward to the next big game!

17 - Warren Groeneveld: All rounder - wish i could play.. Top order batsmen.. and slowest spin bowler ever!! Awesome fielder coached by Jonty Rhodes. so be sure to see me diving around for no reason :-)

**************************

Thats the end of the list folks. Please put your name below if you would like to be a reserve (or runner!), scorer, umpire or media.

Scorers:

1 - Sarah Blake: provider of colourful scoring (accuracy very Pimms dependent)

2 -

Umpires:

1 -

2 -

Media:

1 - Kerry-Anne Gilowey: wannabe sports writer and well-paid Pro20 live-blogger, lists primary influences as Bill Bryson and Dan Nicholl; also a bit of a geek-cricketer groupie, as evidenced by her extreme fondness for Daniel *swoon* Vettori

2 - Paul Gilowey: chief photographer for Cape Town Daily Photo; hates cricket, but will gladly take photos of people getting cramps, dropping catches, tripping over their batting partners and slipping in the outfield. Also, pretty girl spectators.

Fans:

1. Sue Rutherford: absolutely no way I'm missing out on this! I'll be there ... with (cow)bells on =)

Who is #2 on the apologies list that can't play? Thinking his name is still on the playing list.
